I’m Shivani Somaiya: an artist, journalist and arts administrator based in New York City.
Growing up across multiple countries and continents, airports and hotels have become a second home. After the passing of my Dad, art (in every facet: music, writing, photography) changed my life. Today, I bring these elements of my life into my career.
Whether I am walking the abandoned rainforests that are being revived in Kuala Lumpur; learning about the new generation of storytellers breathing life into a century-old tradition in Marrakech; reporting on the transformation of Seoul’s former industrial shoe district into a vibrant playground for the city’s creatives, or building infrastructure for artists: storytelling is at the core of my work.
I am passionate about capturing both the places I visit, and the deeper stories we carry.
Through my writing, I aim to shed light on the messy in-betweens of life, the heartbreak and grief that humanize us, and how creativity can be a portal to a fulfilling and purposeful life.
Currently: Managing Editor at Dossier & Development at United States Artists.
